Microneedling Procedure

Microneedling is the latest cosmetic procedure proven to make your body stimulate new and strong collagen. Microneedling is a non-laser, non-surgical treatment that causes skin to stimulate collagen production and fresh, new tissue.

Each treatment consists of using 12 small, surgical microneedles to create small areas of controlled injury thus prompting your body to start generating new collagen and elastin. Needle penetration to the skin essentially acts to create a channel for growth factors and other topical substances to reach deeper layers of the skin. The new boost of collagen thickens the skin and softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When microneedling is combined with special growth factors from PRP (platelet rich plasma), the collagen is stimulated in deeper layers of the skin, thus providing longer lasting results.

Micro-needling can provide the same results as a fractional laser resurfacing treatment over time, with none of the pain or downtime involved. It can also help topical solutions such as vitamin C or hyaluronic acid to penetrate better into the skin, allowing for enhanced results.

Indications:

  • Acne scarring
  • Surgical scars
  • Dull skin
  • Wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Pigmentation
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Melasma
  • Enlarged pores

    Treatment
A numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure. Using a sterile needle head, the head of the needle is adjusted for depth of needle penetration corresponding to the area being treated. The needles are very small and cause no pain when applied to the skin although there may be some discomfort.

    Results
Microneedling produces substantial clinical improvement of scars, striae, and wrinkles with expedient recovery and limited side effects

    Downtime
The benefit of this procedure is that there is little to no recovery time. Your skin may be slightly red for a few days, but can be covered with makeup. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure for a few days after the procedure and also wear a strong sunscreen when going outdoors.

    Side Effects
Side effects following microneedling are mild in nature, making this a minimal downtime treatment. It is important to find an experienced physician to perform this procedure.

    Contraindications
Pregnant or nursing women, people who have history of collagen vascular disease, people taking blood thinners, people receiving chemotherapy, people with history of abnormal facial growth tumors are also advised against this treatment.
