Over the last couple of years, injectable fillers have become the most requested minimally invasive treatment for beauty enhancement and anti-aging.
Dermal fillers provide a smooth, long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by replacing volume to leave your skin looking younger and fresher for longer. As we age, our skin naturally loses volume and becomes thinner, making fine lines and wrinkles more visible. Fillers work to replenish lost facial volume.
Dermal fillers are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are primarily made of three basic ingredients:
How fillers work:
Dermal fillers are injected beneath a wrinkle, crease, or area with volume loss and they “fill” in the space, providing instant volume and fullness. The hyaluronic acids that compose the filler, which are natural sugars already present in your body, bind to water in the skin which cause a plumping effect and restores fullness.
Indications for dermal filler:
What To Expect
Treatment
Dermal filler treatment is generally quick and simple. Using a very fine needle, a local anesthetic nerve block is done to minimize any discomfort during the actual procedure. Then, with minimal to no discomfort, small amounts of filler are injected into the desired area. Which kind of filler you require will depend on how much volume loss and skin damage you have.
Results
Results are instant, which means you will see an immediate improvement in the treated area. Most people need only one treatment to achieve an optimal outcome. The duration of results varies from each product and each person, but it ranges from six months to over a year or two. Some research shows that repeated injections may help stimulate the body’s own natural production of collagen.
Downtime
Treatment requires minimal downtime and most people return to their normal routine immediately.
Side Effects
The possible side effects of treatments are usually mild to moderate in nature and include temporary skin reactions such as redness, tenderness and bruising. Even though the risks related to fillers are minimal, serious risks do exist. For this reason it is important you should only ever have fillers injected by a board-certified physician who has had ongoing, specialized training in facial anatomy to ensure optimal results.
How to Reverse Previous Filler:
Patients should also understand that the effects of most fillers can easily be reversed. We can dissolve fillers containing hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane and Juvederm, with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
